Say No To Infections This Monsoon Season

Stay safe and healthy during this monsoon

Monsoon comes with freshness, ecstasy and certainly, relief from heat. Apart from the respite, the season comes with its own share of infections and diseases. It is one such weather when the viruses spread at large in the environment leading to infections like viral fever, sore throat, cough, allergies, malaria and many more. Elderly people and children get affected the most and it is important to take complete care.

Take a look at the following tips that you can practice to avoid infections:

1. Use clean water

Most of the diseases emerge from the germs that are in filthy water. Water contamination leads to diseases such as jaundice, typhoid, diarrhoea and gastroenteritis. These diseases are common during monsoon and it is highly recommended to either boil the water or use a purifier. Apart from drinking, use clean water for all other purposes and make sure that water does not get collected in the vicinity of your house. This will again lead to development of germs and diseases thereon.

2. Cover your nose and mouth

Always keep your mouth and nose covered when you are in public with a handkerchief. Also, cover when you are coughing or sneezing to avoid spreading germs.

3. Use separate set of hand towels and soaps

Understand that diseases afflicting during monsoon are contagious, so prevention is widely required. In order to avoid any kind of bacteria transmission, it is advisable that you should use separate hand towels and soaps.

4. Avoid eating outside

Nothing can be more dangerous than eating outside during the monsoon season. Avoid the habit as much as you can. Apart from the existing pollution pains, germs and bacteria during monsoon add to the misery. Eat freshly cooked food at home and avoid any stale item. Use sanitisers on a regular basis.

5. Use mosquito nets and repellents

The mosquitoes that bite during the day or late evening cause dengue and the ones that bite in the night cause malaria. Always use repellents in your environment and use nets when you sleep.

6. Keep shoes dry

Always keep in mind that you use absolutely dry shoes. Wet and soggy shoes may welcome fungal skin allergies and infections.

For children particularly, it is important to take special care. Take a look at the following tips for children:

  1. Always keep the nails clipped to avoid accumulation of dirt and germs.
  2. Wash hands and legs at all intervals.
  3. Provide nutritious and freshly home cooked food.
  4. Keep the child indoors during the first rain, as it is mostly acidic in nature and may cause skin allergies and other problems.
  5. Parents and elder people in the family should take care of themselves, so that germs do not get transmitted. Avoid going near the child, if you are suffering from any water borne disease.

Viral fever is very common among people during monsoon, and some of its symptoms include body ache, headache, joint pain, muscle pain, skin rash, eye redness and nasal congestion. So, take a look at the following remedies:

  • Take Analgesics and Antipyretics if you develop body ache and fever
  • Take steam inhalation in case of sinus pain and nasal congestion
  • Do salt water gargling frequently if you have sore throat
  • Drink lot of water

If the problems persist for a long time, consult a doctor and immediately get medication. Avoid taking medicines or any antibiotic on your own. Remember, early diagnose is better than late treatment.
