Dr Vijay Haribhakti pursued his primary medical education as well as postgraduation in General Surgery at the Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai and got his MS degree in 1984. He then trained at the Tata Memorial Hospital (Mumbai) for 5 years, during which he developed special interest in the fields of Head and Neck Oncology, Breast Cancer and Reconstructive Surgery. In 1989-90, he traveled to New York and Belgium for fellowships at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and at the Center for Microsurgery, Leuven respectively. Following his return, he was appointed as Consultant Surgical Oncologist at the Jaslok Hospital in December 1990, where he has been working ever since. In 1994, he traveled to the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital (London) and to Goettingen (Germany) for special training in skull base surgery and Laser Microsurgery.
His clinical and research interests are in the areas of Head and Neck Cancer and Breast Cancer. His keen interests in organ / function preservation and quality of life have led him to comprehensively develop expertise in the areas of Reconstruction (including Microvascular Reconstruction) and Rehabilitation. He has several national and international publications to his credit and he participates actively (as teaching faculty) in National and International meetings. His related interests are in the areas of Public Health Education and Tobacco Control for Cancer Prevention.
