Dr Saxena is currently working as an Assistant Commissioner with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. She specialises in public heath and has followed it up with a degree in management. Her specific area of interest is child health. Apart from writing a chapter in the recently bought out book on Adolescent Health, she has been a pat of the team for authoring various government publications including being a member of several working groups for the Eleventh Plan. She has also been active in various shows on health on television and radio. After doing her MBBS from the Delhi University, she did her Post Graduate diploma in Health & Family Welfare Management from the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare. After this she did a Diploma in Management (Human Resource Management) followed by a Course on Breastfeeding: Practice & Policy from Institute of Child health, UK and a MD (Community Health Administration) from the University of Delhi. Academic achievements since taking over as Assistant Commissioner (Child Health): 1. Reviewer for the revised Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), 2005(BEST services, Ireland) of UNICEF 2. Lecture on 'Reducing Neo-natal Mortality' in two courses on Maternal Mortality Reduction for senior health managers at Indian institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. 3. Two chapters on 'Child Health Strategy in India' and 'Reducing Maternal Mortality in India - A Public Health Perspective' in a book on Averting Maternal Deaths and Disability being co-ordinated by Dr Dileep Mavalanker, Professor, IIM, Ahmedabad. 4. A chapter on 'Gender' in a book on 'Adolescent health', edited by Dr Swati Bhave & Dr MKC Nair (published by Jaypee Brothers 2006). 5. Lectures on Reproductive and Child Health programme at the National Institute of Public Co-operation and Child Development, NIPPCD, Ministry of Women and Child Development,New Delhi. 6. Lectures on Reproductive and Child Health programmeat the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Munirka, New Delhi.
