Dr Bulchand was trained in medicine at the Christian Medical College in Vellore. She did his MBBS and MD from the same college. She spent six and a half years in the UK and the USA doing General Medicine and came back to India in 1971. She was in the Department of Medicine in CMCH, Vellore from 1971-1975. She was in PGI, Chandigarh for two years (1975-77), in the Nephrology Department. She was a lecturer in Medicine in the Municipal Nair Hospital and Topiwalla National Medical College from 1977 to 1978. She joined Jaslok Hospital in 1978 and worked with Dr MK Mani till 1983, after which she became Head of the Department and has been there ever since.
The hospital has a large department with twelve dialysis stations running three shifts per day. They also run a Renal transplant programme doing an average of two transplants per week. They have done 1400 transplants so far. The department also runs a DNB programme in Nephrology since 1984. Dr Bulchand was the first to start the programme in Mumbai having been trained by Dr Raman Gokal in Manchester, UK.
