Achievements
Dr Nayak has more than four decades of experience in academic, research and professional diagnostic pathology. He is a nationally and internationally recognised expert in liver diseases and in diagnostic pathology. He has contributed substantially to the understanding of several aspects of liver diseases and in biology of cancer, particularly those that are topical to developing countries.
Dr Nayak is the author of about 200 research papers published in top international medical and science journals and contributor to several special books in medicine and pathology. He has been the recipient of a number of academic and research awards from national and international scientific and professional organisations including the FICCI award for excellence in scientific research and MCI award for best medical research. He has served as member and chairman of many expert committees and as advisor on liver diseases including viral hepatitis, liver cancer and cirrhosis and on biomedical research to the WHO, ICMR, CSIR, ICAR, INSA and to several government organisations.
He was elected as fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Science and Indian Academy of Medical Sciences. He has served as group leader in inter-country (Indo-US, Indo-British, Indo-German and Indo-Russian) joint projects on Viral Hepatitis, Liver Cancer, Liver Cancer and Hepatitis Vaccines.
