Swallow The Fish: The Miraculous Asthma Treatment In Hyderabad

Until the medical community finds the courage to face the facts and admit its errors, patients need to be informed that Asthma is not necessarily chronic and incurable- according to a new miraculous treatment in Hyderabad.

Swallow The Fish: The Miraculous Asthma Treatment In Hyderabad

Fish swallowing might cure your chronic Asthma according to this new treatment

Yes, that's right. This bizarre form of treatment, available exclusively in Hyderabad in the month of June, promises to cure asthma. Anyone who has been caught in the trap of this disease, will know that it is almost impossible to cure it. While many forms of treatments can reduce its troubling symptoms like shortness of breath and coughing, no permanent cure for asthma has been found.

Naturally, thousands of people from across India and even from outside it, are eager to try this remedy. Every year, the Indian Government arranges special trains to allow people to reach the fish medicine faster. The medicine is offered free of cost in a two day camp, organized as per the arrival of the monsoons.

How does it work?

It's a very simple and short process. Administrators of the treatment basically shove a wriggling fish, stuffed with yellow herbal paste down your throat. The fish in use, Murrel, is a freshwater breed, also known as the snakehead.

This 'fish prasadam' supposedly clears your throat of phlegm, allowing you to breathe easy.

Patients are also required to maintain a strict diet, regulated by the administrators for the next 45 days. This includes avoiding intake of water for at least half hour after gulping the fish.

The Bathini Mrigasira Karthi Fish Prasadam Trust, who are the proprietors of the miraculous medicine, have stocked over 200 kgs of fish this year, ready to cure more than 4 lakh eager patients.

From A Scientific Perspective...

While the Bathini Goud family maintains that they acquired the secret of the treatment by a saint, back in 1845, this explanation has not convinced those looking for scientific logic and evidence.

Jana Vignana Vedika, an organisation that aims to create awareness among people about the importance of science in daily life, has moved the Hyderabad High Court and obtained an order that the family cannot market the 'cure' as a medicine. So it is now called as a prasadam.

Many others have labeled the treatment as unscientific and unhygienic.

However, what is also true is that many such innovative and 'alternative' treatments have slowly been accepted by science over the years. One example is acupuncture. Initially discredited by the FDA and all other major health organisations, scientists now believe in the power of needles in directing energy to the body, to cure chronic pain.

A pharmacology professor offers a different perspective to explain the effect of the prasadam. According to her, "Asthma will not be cured once the medicine is taken, but people with the placebo effect, a psychological effect that the receptors of the medicine, may perceive a personal expectation makes all the difference. Moreover, there can be nausea, skin irritation and vomiting if the body rejects the 'fish medicine' if not properly administered.''

Even with mixed reviews about the success of the treatment, many are willing to try the miracle cure. As Rakesh Kumar, an asthma patient who has come from Hubli in Karnataka says, "I have seen my brother recover from the disorder after he had taken the medicine and since then I wanted to try. I am sure it will reduce my asthma problem."
