Dr. Allam was born in a remote village in India. He excelled in academics since his childhood. He did his medical schooling from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam. He won numerous gold medals during his medical school. He was also awarded a research grant from Indian Council of Medical Research and an award from Indian Public Health Association for his research study on burden of hypertension in India. Dr. Allam moved to the United States in 2003. He did Master of Public Health (M.P.H) from University of Texas School of Public Health. While doing M.P.H, Dr. Allam also worked as research fellow at world renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center where he contributed to the development of novel therapeutics for gastrointestinal cancers and co-authored a book chapter on upper gastrointestinal cancers in 'MD Anderson Manual of Medical Oncology'.
In 2005, he moved to Cleveland for Internal Medicine Residency at one of the best hospitals in U.S, the Cleveland Clinic. After finishing his residency in 2008, he became a diplomat of American Board of Internal Medicine with a score in the certification exam in the top decile for the whole U.S. Later, he accepted a fellowship in nephrology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York which is renowned for performing first haemodialysis in U.S. in 1947. During his fellowship, Dr. Allam was elected as 'Chief Fellow' for year 2010-2011. He was also involved in ground breaking basic science research in kidney diseases and transplantation. Dr. Allam is widely published and presented his research at various national and international scientific meetings. In 2008, he won "Young Investigator Award" from European Renal Association for his research on relation between chronic kidney disease and arterial stiffness. In 2011, he was invited to present his research on genomics of transplantation at prestigeous plenary session at American Transplant Congress. Dr. Allam is currently working as general and transplant nephrologist in Sacramento, California.
