Dr. Sujeet Jha is the Director of Institute of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Max Healthcare and he shaped the department in past 9 years. He has a vast experience of clinical practice in rural and urban India. He has been trained in the speciality in the UK and has an experience of about 15 years. He is the pioneer of the first Diabetes Educators Training Program in India in collaboration with the Project Hope and has trained more than 100 diabetes educators who are now employed in various organizations. He created a highly-trained work force of Diabetes Educators for Inpatients and Outpatients. He has been extensively involved in Research in Diabetes and Endocrinology. Currently, Dr. Jha is leading two European Union (EU) funded projects in collaboration with the Imperial College, London. He has original research publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals including Nature, The Lancet, Lancet-Diabetes & Endocrinology and Diabetes Care. Dr. Jha has conceptualized and designed a lifestyle intervention study for prevention of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). This study is on-going at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi. He is also leading the largest community-based study being conducted in India (iHealth T2D Study), in collaboration with Imperial College, London. Aim of this study is to evaluate simple tools for identification of Indians at high risk of diabetes based on either a blood test (HbA1c-overall 3 months average blood sugar status) or measurement of waist size, as both are predictor of diabetes. Our approach in this study is to promote health through lifestyle modification (healthy diet, increased physical activity) in a simplified manner without medication in pre-diabetes individuals. Dr. Jha has recently been felicitated with the “Best Researcher & Innovation Award” by Indian Academy of Diabetes. He has also received “The Best Diabetes Clinic” and “Best Researcher Award” in the ABP News Healthcare Leadership Awards 2015 and Prof.B.N. Shrivastava & late (Mrs.) Sarandulari Shrivastava Award for his research contribution in the field of Diabetes by the Research Society for the study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI).
