Bejon Misra studied in Loyola School Jamshedpur and subsequently in Business Management with Marketing as major from Banares Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, India. He commenced his professional life as a Marketing Executive with TATA Steel and then opted to become an Entrepreneur and moved into Marketing & Management Consultancy and the travel industry in Jamshedpur.
Bejon Misra Initiated and participated in the Consumer movement in India since 1983 as the founder Managing Trustee of the Consumer Guidance Society of Jamshedpur. He is signatory and Founder Governing Council Member of Consumer Coordination Council (CCC), the National Coalition of 55 leading Consumer Organisations of India in the year 1993. At present elected as the Chairman of CCC for a two-year term 2003-05. He is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Voluntary Organisation in Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE), one of the leading consumer organisations of India based in New Delhi, founded in 1983 by the faculty and students of Delhi University. VOICE is a Council Member of Consumers Internationals (CI), which has 250 member organisations in 120 countries.
He has represented Consumers Internationals (CI) in various international negotiations as a member of CI delegation at Codex Alimentarious Commission, World Health Organisation (WHO), World Health Assembly (WHA), Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) & International Conference on Renewable Energies. Also represented India as the member of Indian delegation as a consumer representative at the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) and the Codex Committee on Food Labeling (CCFL) meetings abroad.
He is the Member of National level Advisory Committees of Government of India and State Governments in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Bureau of Indian Standards, Government Regulatory Authorities, Public and Private sector companies and Board Member of Quality Council of India. Has published several researchpapers on consumer behaviour and perspectives on complaint handling mechanisms, accessibility, affordability and quality of service related issues for World Bank, WHO, GTZ, British Council, DFID, USAID and NPPA. Managed projects on developing campaigns and strategies involving consumer organisations in the health sector reforms and Good Governance issues in Public and Private Partnership. At present Consultant with UNDP on an assignment with Global Alliance on Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in Geneva.
