People who begin the day with a morning meal have an adequate balance of nutrients and minerals in their body as compared to those who skip breakfast. To assess the breakfast habits of people, researchers analysed the food records from a 'diet and nutrition survey', which questioned 12,068 Britons aged between 19 and 64 years.

The analysis revealed that one in five adults ate no solid food for the morning meal, one-third opted for cereal and 45 percent had a non-cereal breakfast. Tea and coffee was the preferred breakfast drink in 84 percent cases. In addition, milk was popular in 82 percent cases, followed by cereal (39 percent), bread (33 percent) and fruits (14 percent).

Cereal and milk was acknowledged as the most healthy breakfast choice. It was found men were more inclined to choose bread, sausage, or eggs while fruit was the popular choice with females. It was also noted that eating the morning meal was linked with lower fat and higher carbohydrate intake over 24 hours as opposed to skipping breakfast. However, this association was only attributed to cereal-based breakfasts while non-cereal meals were linked with a higher intake of saturated fatty acid and lower protein consumption.
