Parents and doctors in shock as girl cries tears of blood
Her ordeal
The girl, Ahana Afzal had started bleeding from her nose 16 months back, and the doctors had identified her with pneumonia or high fever. But since then, she continued to bleed from her mouth, ears, eyes and private parts of her body regularly, sometimes even three times in a single day.
The doctors have been unable to diagnose her condition and for now, have reduced her bleeding through extensive and multiple transfusions and recurrent admissions. Her parents and doctors are worried that this might take a toll on the young child’s body. Her father has urged central and state authorities to help the doctors in finding a permanent solution to the problem. "My daughter's problem started when she had a nosebleed, aged one, that time she was suffering from pneumonia. When I question doctors on her permanent cure- they don't have an answer,” says the father of the girl, Mohammed Afzal.
About Hematidrosis
This disorder happens when the blood vessels that feed sweat glands burst, mixing with the fluid of the sweat. Generally, this happens due to extreme fear or stress, that causes the sympathetic nervous system to act so vigorously. Unfortunately, the disease is difficult to diagnose with platelet tests and skin biopsies showing no results.
The disorder can cause dehydration and weakness in the body and medications or adhesive patches may be used to control or treat it.
