The Doctor's Day is celebrated on July 1 all across India to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Bidhan Chandra Roy.
However, the day will be observed as Black Day and doctors will hold a march from Gumar Mandi to protest against the Clinical Establishment Bill. The decision was taken by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ludhiana. According to the association, the government took the decision unilaterally, completely ignoring the problems of medical fraternity. The members said it will lead to tremendous increase in the cost of treatment due to expenses needed to fulfill the provisions of the Bill.
