Can a HIV positive couple continue to have unprotected sex?

Q: If a couple continues to have un-protected sex without knowing they are HIV positive, how long will it take for the symptoms to show up? Will they get similar symptoms almost at the same time or different symptoms at different time? Can a HIV positive couple continue to have un-protected sex? If not, why? What are the complications?

A:

  1. Appearance of symptoms of AIDS in HIV infected individuals can take 2 years to 12 years. It all depends upon many factors such as immune system, nutritional status, life style of the person concerned.
  2. The Symptoms will appear at difference times as no two individuals are same. The types of symptoms that will appear will also vary.
  3. We advise even HIV infection persons to have sex after taking protection because un-protected sex between two HIV positive persons will continue to have HIV transmission with each other & they will continue to re-infect each other.
