Do multiple sexual partners increase the chances of AIDS?

Q: A friend of mine got divorced twice. He believes that the earlier two wives were not infected with HIV; now he is planning a third marriage. Presuming she is not infected is my friend likely to have HIV infection since he would be having three partners now?

A:If your friend is sure that his partners have been HIV free, he cannot get HIV infection from them. However, please remember that sex is not the only route and that there are other routes of getting HIV infection also (in about 20%cases). One has to take precautions against them too.
