Why do infants get diarrhoeal symptoms when teething?
Q: Why do infants get diarrhoeal symptoms when it is time for teeth to appear and how the effect of such symptoms can be controlled?
A:Teething perse doesnot give rise to significant diarrhoea, other than slight increase in frequency and semiformed stools and they are not associated with any evidence of infection. During teething baby tends to put everything in the mouth and that may be associated with additional risk of infection if they put things in the mouth which may carry germs. If baby looks fine and is feeding well and is making enough urine per day ie 6-7 times per day and stools are not absolutely watery and a stool examination does not reveal any evidence of infection, you may ignore them.
