My gynaecologist gave me an ointment. But there was no improvement, so I consulted a surgeon who asked me to undergo a small surgery at the anus. But he did not tell me anything clearly. I am afraid to undergo the surgery. Does this happen as an after-effect of delivery? I had a normal delivery. Will surgery create any problems in future, especially during future pregnancy? Can this problem be solved by medications and surgery be avoided? What is the reason behind bleeding?

A:This type of problem occurs often after normal delivery but does not remain after six to eight weeks, if the following precautions are taken:

• Avoid constipation.
• High roughage diet.
• Local ointment.
• Sitz bath (hot water fermentation of the problem area and sitting in hot water for 8-10 minutes).
