Which condoms are safe against HIV?

Q: Which are the good condoms or vaginal inserts for women, available in chemist shops that can prevent AIDS?

A:All fresh condoms marketed in India meet international specifications and can be used for safer sex. It is preferable to get a lubricated condom and/or use a good water based lubricant (such as KY Jelly) as lubrication that reduces the chance of condom tear. Female condoms may be available, please inquire locally. There are no vaginal inserts such as pessaries, suppositaries or ointments/jellies that are effective for preventing transmission of HIV. Please always remember that condoms greatly reduce the chance of HIV transmission, they do not eliminate the risk totally. Condoms have been estimated to offer 80 to 85% protection in the long run.
