What causes hair growth inside the eye lid?
Q: I have itching and numbness inside the surface of the bottom lid of the right eye for the past 3 weeks. Doctor found a small hair growing on the inside surface of the eye. A general physician removed the hair and I have slight relief now. What causes the hair growth inside the eye lid? How can it be prevented? Will it grow again?
A:You must have had a misdirected eyelash: trichiasis. This may be due to local scarring in the inner side of the lid due to trachoma or other such infection. Sometimes the entire lid margin is turned in, if the scarring is more severe and is called entropion. Which requires surgery. For recurrent trichiasis electrolysis is better.
