Primary Ammenorrhea

Q: I am a 26 yr old girl. I was diagnosed as having Primary Ammenorrhea at the age of 17. I get my period only if I take estrogen and progesterone tablets. On some further investigation, it was found that secretion of FSH from my pituitary gland was below normal and hence the problem started. Is there any treatment for my condition and shall I be completely cured or will have to depend on medicines like Siphene? Also is it too late to start the treatment now that I am 26 yrs old, I do not want to get married because of this problem. I am afraid of sexual incompatibility. Please advise.

A:It will probably be necessary for you to take medication like Estrogen and Progesterone to get your regular cycles. At the time when you desire to conceive, you are likely to require Siphene or FSH injections or other similar drugs. It is not too late to start treatment. You can get Osteoporosis-thinning of the bones, due to low levels of estrogen if you do not take any treatment at all. Assuming that your physical checkup has been normal, you will have absolutely no sexual problems, as long as you keep taking the estrogen and progesterone. Please do not be afraid of getting married as you are likely to have a completely normal sexual life. However, when you want to conceive, it may be a little problematic and you are likely to need help.
