Is chicken pox during pregnancy a reason for termination?
Q: My sister is affected with chickenpox. She has also been confirmed as pregnant. Doctor has said that the pregnancy should be terminated. She is married for two years and had to terminate pregnancy earlier once. What is your opinion. Can she continue or terminate? Please advise.
A:The chance of her baby being affected permanently with varicella is less than 7%. However, the risk of transmission to the baby is 40%. You can decide for yourself that for a 7% risk would you like to go through a termination? The decision depends on your priorities.
