Is a ceramic dental cap permanent or needs to be replaced?

Q: I am a 46 years old male suffering from dental problem since childhood. For pus formation in the gums in right upper layer I was advised a root canal treatment. Last year a root canal was done by a qualified doctor and after this a ceramic cap was put and I was assured by the doctor that the cap is permanent. About 10-15 days ago while eating a hard substance the cap came off. On consulting my dentist, he said the cap needs to be repalced. Now my question is whether a cap is permanent or it has to be replaced every time it comes off.

A:A cap is permanent and should not come off easily. It is meant to last for years together. If it does come out and if everything else with that tooth is alright, the same cap can be recemented.
