I don't want to be emotionally attached with anyone, what should I do?

Q: How can I stop myself from getting attracted towards someone and stop dreaming about him? I don't want to get emotional with anybody. Neither my family nor my friends or anyone in this world. I just want to be happy with myself and want no one else in my life. Please advise.

A:Even if this was possible, emotional isolation is not necessarily the healthiest or happiest way of living in the long term. You need to explore the reasons behind why you feel this way, maybe there is a fear of being hurt or let down, which is quiet normal and could be a result of some past experience. Please give it time and also think about why you cannot trust those close to you, such as your family and friends, try to talk to them if the need be. You are quite young and remember that teenage relationships be it friendship or more than that are just treading water for mature adult relationships based on trust, understanding and commitment. There will be a number of people that you will be attracted to, so as long as you concentrate on your career or studies, your personal growth or whatever it is that is of importance to you, you will soon pass through this phase of attraction and will feel more empowered as far as emotions are concerned.
