How to take care of my children's teeth?
Q: My son is 4.2 years old. He used to have lots of chocolates and juices. As a result, one of his upper molar teeth is decaying, which was filled. I make him brush twice daily. I would like to know how I can take care of my son's teeth? I have reduced giving him sweets, chocolates and juices. Will that help? I also have another son who is one year old.
A:The basic dental care involves only five rules:
- Brush teeth twice a day, so as to clean all surfaces of the teeth.
- Reduce sweet exposure to three or less times a day (sugar or sweet means all those things which have sugar in it - toffee, chocolate, juices, sweetened milk, pastry, ice cream, cold drink, biscuits, homemade or market made sweets, i.e., anything to which sugar is added)
- Eat healthy food rich in fibres. Even fresh fruits are good.
- Rinse after every meals.
- Use toothpaste that contains fluoride.
