How can I stop my daughter from talking to an unknown adult?

Q: My 13 years old daughter, who attained her puberty about one and half years back, is behaving very strangely for her age. She is good at her studies but has recently developed friendship with a driver who stays a block away from our home. She talks to this man daily over the phone and has got addicted to it. She can’t even sleep without talking to this man. Please help us take her out of this.

A:I think that the matter can be quite serious. It is not unusual for adolescents to imagine themselves in love or to develop a crush on someone. But an adult can easily take advantage of her vulnerability and trap her. It is best you talk to her and even at the risk of some tears and tantrums, force her to stop communicating with the driver. Withdrawal of cell phone privilege is a possibility. I say this only because we hear of instances of young girls being lured into secret meetings at a hotel or Guest House. Your daughter must realize that her future cannot lie with a driver who talks on the mobile to her. Have her meet other people her own age. Get her involved in dance, music or aerobics classes. Let her learn Yoga. Please provide her the protection and advice now.
