Has a cure for HIV/AIDS been discovered?

Q: Has any medicine been found for HIV/AIDS? If not is there any possibility? Which is the best medicine at present? My son caught the infection in 1989 after marriage (through his wife who got it through blood transfusion). She died in 1994. My sons health is quite normal. He weighs 60 Kgs. He doesn't take alcohol nor does he smoke. He exercises regularly. Is there any suggestion for him? His only daughter is infected from birth. She is 18 years old and weighs 40 kg. One month back we noticed a minor infection of TB which was treated immediately. The review for this will be after a fortnight. Please advise.

A:No, unfortunately till now, there are no medicines that can cure HIV/ AIDS. However, there are certain anti-retroviral medicines available that can improve quality and duration of persons with HIV. By adopting a healthy life style and by taking anti-retroviral drugs if needed, all HIV positive persons can lead a good life for many years. No alcohol, no smoking, daily exercises, yoga, positive thinking and eating balanced diet are part of a healthy life style. Please get your grand-daughter examined by a paediatrician who deals with HIV.
