Q: My wife had spotting during the sixth week of her pregnancy. Fortunately, the scan revealed that the baby is healthy. The doctor advised her bed rest, but we are really confused about the duration of bed rest. She took bed rest for two weeks and didn't have spotting in this period. Can I take her out for a drive once in a while?

A:If there is no further spotting, she can go for an occasional drive. She will, however, have to avoid lifting weights, having sex and doing heavy work for at least another two months, till she reaches the third or fourth month, and her repeat scan is normal.
