Does gestational diabetes subside after delivery?
Q: My wife is 27 years old and has gestational diabetes. She delivered twins and is still facing the acute problem. Her sugar lever is 135-145 in fasting mode, but after meal or random value is 110-120. Please advise.
A:Most of the women with GDM (Gestational Diabetes mellitus) become normal after delivery. This takes around six weeks time. So just calculate the time after delivery. In case it is <6 weeks, get a diabetic profile done after 6 weeks. But if it is already > 6 weeks, then by definition, she has DM and with this kind of blood glucose levels she need only medical nutrition therapy and physical activity. No medications are needed.
