Does a non-reactive HIV test mean I am free of HIV?

Q: My pathology test results are as follows: HIV Serology (Rapid) - Method is Immuno blot Assay. Parameter is - HIV I and HIV II Antibodies. Result - Non-Reactive. Does this mean that HIV is negative? ESR 1st Hour - 08mm, is it OK? WBC 12,300 / cumm. Please advise.

A:HIV seronegativity (non-reactive test) does not always mean the person is negative for HIV. The person infected may be in window period just after infection before antibodies develop and in the last phase when there is severe immune suppression.
