Depression - relapse

Q: I was depressed for one year since 1999. Under proper treatment, I recovered from my depression and started with my studies again, as I was a failure earlier. But nowadays, I have started smoking cigarettes and cannabis due to failure in my studies again. I am also taking psychiatric medicines (Sertraline and Propranolol). Please advice.

A:The illness or disease of Depression is quite commonly recurrent and it seems to me that your later symptoms may be indicator of that type of a problem. In any case, it is good that you are already following treatment. I am sure that with competent treatment and your own effort, you can do well and overcome the problems.
