Q: I recently had IUI done and was given Uterone 100 mg tablet (vaginally); one in the morning and one at night. Can we have intercourse after taking this tablet?

A:Uterone contains a female hormone called progesterone which is used in assisted reproductive techniques such as IUI. It may take up to 4 hours for the vaginal tablet to be totally absorbed and reach the blood. Even though the interaction between semen and progesterone, if any, has not been studied, it is better to avoid sexual intercourse for 4 hours after insertion of the vaginal tablet.
