Can Cialis be taken while I am on medication for diabetes?

Q: I am 46 years old and have erectile dysfunction for the past 2 years. I am a diabetic, but my sugar levels are under control. I take 2 semi Daonils daily and walk a lot apart from diet control for keeping my glucose levels under control. I am also under Tenormin 50 1 tab daily for mild hypertension & Restyl 0.25 mg in stress conditions for relaxation. Is Tenormin a nitrate combination? In these circumstances, is soft Cialis advisable for me to overcome erection problems? What alternatives are possible for a person like me? I have a strained relationship with my young wife who feels let down. I feel very sorry for her. Please help.

A:The issue is diabetes mellitus (DM) and erectile dysfunction. Diabetes is a common cause of impotence but this problem usually comes when the disease is for a long duration and one has complications and blood glucose is not under control. In your case, it does not seem to be related to DM. Most likely its due to psychological factors. Another factor may be tenormin, which is a beta blocker and is known to cause erectile dysfunction. My suggestion is that stop tenormin and if need be, switch over to some other antihypertensive medication. I think you can use Viagra/Cialis safely, if you do not have an underlying heart problem. Meet a physician for the prescription.
