Q: A close relative of mine died recently due to AIDS. I had kept him in my house for three months. Every precaution has been taken regarding blood transmission etc. Recently, since two to three months, I am getting regular fever and I got herpes symptoms too. What is wrong with me?

A:If you were careful about the usual risks of transmitting HIV (blood, sex) then there should not be any possibility of your getting infection from your relative living in the same house. If you have any doubt and for your peace of mind, get a test done after 3 months of the exposure. Go to the nearest Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre and get an anonymous test. I can not be more explicit as I do not know where you live. There is probably a centre near you.
