Will I get a heart attack since I have atrial fibrillation?

Q: I am a 24 year male. I had an acute atrial fibrillation 2 years ago. But I became normal shortly after. My doctor conducted many tests including 2D-ECHO. But everything was found to be normal. I became very depressed after that. I always keep on thinking that I will get a heart attack. Due to this stress I have developed High BP. My doctor is giving ATEN-25 and BP is under control(120/80). I am still very depressed that whether I have to live on the medicine throughout life. Can I control my BP without medicine and what is the probability of occurrence of atrial fibrillation? I am very scared. Please advise.

A:Given the fact that your tests were normal at the time you were diagnosed to have Atrial Fibrillation; makes me think what you have is known as Lone Atrial Fibrillation. It is a benign condition that occurs in young people who are perfectly healthy and have a normal heart. There is nothing to worry; this Atrial Fibrillation even if it persists will not cause you heart attack or make you die. The fact that you have hypertension now, that itself can cause a Fibrillation so you must ensure that your hypertension is adequately controlled by drugs. Whether you can do away with drugs or not is difficult for me to say but you must do dietary modification & lifestyle changes like doing meditation whether you are / or not on drugs. If you ask me the cause of your Atrial Fibrillation, honestly I do not know, despite aggressive research it is not known why some people who seem entirely normal like you still have Atrial Fibrillation.
