Why is reading while lying down prohibited?
Q: It is advised not to read while lying down. What does it mean? Should one not read while lying on one's back or one should not read when lying down at any position at all?
A:It is only for practical reasons that reading while lying down, is to be avoided as it will strain your muscles. For near reading the best ocular posture is with the eyes looking down (towards feet) at a distance of 34 cm. If one does so while lying down, with his head supported by a pillow, where does he put the book, so that ocular posture can be assumed? Interestingly spectacles with prisms have been described for the die hards!
