Why is my wife not conceiving after artificial insemination?
Q: We have been married for 2 years. So far my wife has been unable to conceive. Treatment is going on for the last 5 months. Initially she had problems of improper ovulation, which is now solved with medications like clomiphene, HCG injections. IUI (artificial insemination) with sperm wash was also carried out for 3 cycles. My sperm motility is grade 4 and 3 put together, is between 70 to 80% and the sperm count before wash is 70 million. I am taking vitamin E capsules but my wife is still unable to conceive. This month we have taken a break from treatment. Please advise further course of action. Should we continue the same treatment?
A:The next step is testing for the tubes by a test called an HSG (Hysterosalpingography) - an x-ray after some radio-opaque dye is injected, or laparoscopy to rule out other causes of infertility like endometriosis or tuberculosis which may need to be treated after testing.
