Why is my semen not coming out?

Q: I am a 45 years old man who had a transuretheral prostatectomy (TURP) done about 8 months back. Since then during sex no semen comes out. The doctor told me that there is retrograde ejaculation and semen goes into the bladder. Will I be able to father a child? Is it harmful? Is it usual with TURP? What is the remedy?

A:It is usual following TURP. Since the prostatic component of semen disappears and bladder neck is left wider the sperms get to the bladder. There are ways to help you. If you seek help of a fertility clinic through your urologist they may spin your urine and use sperms for artificial insemination or do some thing else to assist you in fathering a child.
