Why has my wife developed fever after c-section?
Q: My 28 years old wife was suffering from placenta praevia due to repetitive bleeding. Then, the doctor decided to do c-section at 32nd week of pregnancy. Now, the baby is in an incubator and safe but after a week, my wife suffered from high fever. Now, 20 days have passed but the fever persists around 100 degree Fahrenheit. We have consulted a doctor, who asked my wife to undergo certain tests. She was diagnosed with urinary tract infection. All the relevant injections were administered. Although the magnitude of the fever has come down from 102 degree Fahrenheit to 100 degree Fahrenheit, she hasn’t recovered fully. Why has my wife developed fever after c-section?
A:Lots of times urinary infections or hospital-acquired infections may be multidrug resistant. UTI maybe more severe if associated with history of catheterisation or a gynaecological procedure. Your wife would need higher generation antibiotics like piperacillin / tazobactam or carbapenems if the fever persists or the sensitivity report shows the same. If fever still remains, antifungal would need to be added. Amikacin and nitrofurantoin work very well in routine UTI.
