Why doesn't my son keep both his feet on the floor while standing?

Q: My 11 months old son has lately started standing with support. But whenever he stands, he keeps his right foot flat (touching the floor) and his left foot on his toes. I am a bit worried. Is it normal or should I get him evaluated?

A:A lot of children do this when they first learn to walk. Provide good shoes with ankle supports and encourage the child to place the foot flat on the ground. If he is still walking in the same manner after 3-6 months, please get him evaluated by a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon.
