Why do my son's eyes water continuously?
Q: My three and a half months old son’s eyes water incessantly. We massage the nearby joint area between eye and nose but can't see much improvement. We have used the drop Gentamicin and Mosi and are presently using Levetop eye drop. Is something seriously wrong with my son’s eyes?
A:The naso-lacrimal duct or tear duct may not form completely by birth in some children and may take up to 1 year to open up fully. These children may have watering with or without discharge up to one year of age. You must continue the massage and antibiotic drops till the watering stops spontaneously. If it continues beyond one year, it should syringed and probed by a pediatric ophthalmologist and further treatment pursued.
