Why do I have irregular periods?
Q: I am a 26 years old female weighing 60 kg. I have irregular cycles and sometimes I get my periods twice a month with a gap of 6-7 days. I consulted a doctor who told me to do follicular monitoring, which I did not opt for because I got married last year. I took oral contraceptive pills for about eight months. Why am I suffering from irregular periods and how can it be managed?
A:You are having irregular cycles because you are not forming eggs on your own (anovulatory cycles). You also have a high BMI and need to reduce weight with exercise and diet control. Your ultrasound might show evidence on polycystic ovarian syndrome. You will need ovulation induction to form eggs and then only you will be able to conceive in case your husband's semen count is normal. You need to see an infertility specialist for the same.
