Why do I get giddiness after my car accident?

Q: I am a 28 years old female. Five months back, I met with a car accident and had a fracture and it took me 4 months to get fine. Now I have started coming to the office by car again. I experience giddiness and feel very tensed if the driver goes beyond 50 kmph. I recall the accident and get tensed. I have not been able to get sound sleep since then. I experience giddiness at night also. What should I do?

A:The symptoms you are describing are not so unusual in the aftermath of what you have gone through. I would suggest two lines of action. The psychological symptoms you are experiencing, and also possibly the your sleeping problems, may all be helped by speaking to someone; a Psychologist or Psychiatrist may be a helpful person in this instance. Giddiness can be an after effect of something like a car accident. I would though suggest you see a Neurologist and have yourself checked out, to make sure that it is just a benign after effect, and not something else. The Neurologist will also be able to discuss the appropriate treatment with you for the giddiness.
