Why did my wife have two missed abortions?
Q: My 35 years old wife had two missed abortions. Her TORCH profile report is cited below:- Anti nuclear Antibody (Serum/ IF): NEGATIVE Rubella-IgG ( Serum/Chemiluminiscence): 63 Ref Range - Protective =>10 IU/ML> CMV-IgM (Serum/Elisa): 0.3 Ref Range - Negative :<1.0, Positive:=>1.0 CMV –IgG (Serum/Chemiluminiscence): 16.70 Ref. Range N: <0.9, E: 0.9-1.1, P: >1.1 Did these infections cause abortions? What can cause such an infection? How can it be treated?
A:This test only indicates the presence of antibodies against a particular infection. Presence of antibodies does not indicate the difference between the present and part infection and it also does not tell about active infection. You need to get the whole TORCH profile done for IgM as well as IgG antibodies from a good lab and then only some interpretation can be taken out. In any case, two consecutive missed abortions do not happen because of presence of TORCH infection.
