When should my child be vaccinated with DPT booster?

Q: My 18 months old child has been recently vaccinated with MMR. Our doctor has asked us to vaccinate him with DPT booster after five days of MMR vaccination. Is this gap okay or do we need to wait for some more time?

A:Either the DPT booster should have been given with the MMR vaccine or there should be a minimum interval of 4 weeks between the MMR vaccine and the DPT booster. If this minimal interval is not adhered to, then the protective efficacy of the vaccines would diminish.
