When can plastic surgery be done to remove appendisectomy scars?
Q: My 6-year-old daughter has a deep scar following an appendisectomy operation done at the age of 6 years. What is the right age to get plastic surgery done?
A:The best age to carry out scar revision after an appendisectomy is around 18 years. The satisfactory result depends on whether the scar is vertical or oblique. Oblique scars give better results than vertical scars. After a scar revision, a lot of care has to be taken for at least one year so that the scar looks good. The patient should avoid putting on weight for at least two years after surgery. Otherwise, the scar would stretch and would not look very good.
