What to do for acidity and gastric problems?

Q: I am suffering from acidity and a gastric problem. Whenever I lie down just after taking meals, palpitations increase and I can hear them through the ears. If I take a walk and then lie down after say 1-2 hours, things are normal. I once did my ECG done suspecting a heart disease and it showed Sinus Tachycardia (I was very nervous at the time the ECG was being done). Whenever I take an antacid like Digene, gelusil and sit for some time, I get burps and pass gas too.

A:It sounds like you have a condition called GERD (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease), which means that acid from your stomach is backing up into your food pipe (oesophagus). Please take the following steps: 1. Take Omeprazole 20 mg in morning before breakfast on an empty stomach. 2. Lose weight if you are overweight 3. Avoid heavy meals 4. Avoid going to bed for atleast 2 hrs after a meal. 5. Raise the head end of your bed by 4 using a brick or wooden block under each leg of the bed.
