What tests are to be done to rule out fetal abnormalities?

Q: I am 13 weeks pregnant now. I recently had a few tests including the TORCH test done since I have 2 dogs in the house. One of my results HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 2 IgG was 2.3 (should be within 1.0 ratio) whereas the HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS 2 IgG is within the ratio (0.6). My gynaecologist said that it was OK and there was nothing to worry about but I am still a little worried. Could you please help me? Also my husband and I are first cousins (dad's step-sister's son).

A:What you have been told by your doctor is right, you do not have to worry at all about the titres being positive at this stage. You should get a pap smear done (which I am sure your treating physician would have suggested and perhaps already performed as a routine). The fact that you and your husband are related should also not cause any harm. At 16 weeks you should do the triple test, just like all women should to screen for fetal abnormalities and also a detailed ultrasound at 20 weeks. If all these are normal you should rest assured that the baby should be fine. I wish you all the luck.
