What should I do about drug allergy?

Q: For the last 1.5 years I am allergic to some antibiotic drugs. At present I am 34 years old. I never had this kind of problem earlier. I would like to know, is there any treatment for this? Some of the medicines which I have found to be allergic to are: Ampicillin, Amoxycillin, and Meftalforte.

A:Ampicillin and Amoxycillin are quite closely related members of the beta-lactam family, sometimes called the penicillins. If you have reacted adversely to two members of this group, you should probably be cautious about the entire group. Some drug allergy reactions are more dangerous than others, such as those which occur immediately after the first dose of a course of a drug.
