What precautions should a diabetic take?

Q: My husband is a diabetic for the last 6 months. First he was on insulin, then medicines and now he manages without medicines. One month ago he joined the gym, he was running on the speed of 11-14, after some days he felt pain in back, knees, shoulders and weakness and tiredness. Use of painkiller causes too much acidity even with zentac, what should we do? He is 38 years old, 5.6, 68 kg. His fasting sugar is 83 and PP is 124, Hb1Ac is 6.2. Is healing of muscles (tissues) a long process for diabetics?

A:Most young diabetics do not need medication for some time after initial control with insulin or medications. Best exercise for diabetics is aerobic exercise i.e., jogging, brisk walking, swimming, etc. During this exercise one should try to achieve a 80% of target heart rate i.e., 220-age for at least 20 minutes 4 to 5 times in a week. For pain he could take ultrazox 2 to 3 times a day for one week. Healing is delayed in diabetics if blood sugars are not controlled.
