What is the treatment for a sleep disorder?

Q: I am a 47 years old male. I am suffering from a sleep disorder. I get these attacks, which come without any warning and suddenly I see myself falling sleep. I could be sitting on my PC and suddenly I find myself wake up after 30/40 minutes, without the knowledge that I was sleeping. I don't think this has anything to do with sleep apnoea or narcolepsy. Many a times I have fallen asleep on public buses and have missed my stop. Once it also happened that I was talking to someone only to find that an hour has passed by and I couldn't remember at what point that I had fallen asleep. I have been taking caffeine based tablets but they don't seem to be working. Please give me a solution.

A:It is possible that you have a sleep disorder such as narcolepsy. There are several medications that can lead to such attacks. Epilepsy itself can lead to daytime sleepiness/sleep attacks. I suggest that you see a sleep specialist for a comprehensive evaluation and possible sleep study.
