Q: I want to know what is exact method for checking the temperature. I have 2 different inputs from top shot child specialists. One child specialist says if you take temperature below arm and if you keep for 1 minute you have to add 1 Degree F. If it is kept for 2 minutes no need of adding 1 Degree F. Another doctor says you have to add 1 Degree F irrespective of time you keep under the armpit. We are totally confused as both of them are top child specialists.

A:The standard recommendations are that if you keep the thermometer in the armpit or the axilla for 3 minutes you don't have to add anything to the recorded temperature. Thermometer kept for lesser period may give erroneous readings.
